Set up Squoosh

To set up Squoosh, sign in, then complete the three-step Get started with Squoosh modal: add the site you want to test, choose an analytics source, and connect it. Connecting analytics is what lets Squoosh calibrate synthetic shoppers to match your real traffic, so your experiment results reflect your actual customers.

The Get started with Squoosh modal opens automatically the first time you sign in.

  1. Go to the Squoosh sign-in page.
  2. Choose Continue with Google, or enter your email address and click Send sign-in link to get a magic link.

If you plan to connect Google Analytics, sign in with the Google account that already has access to the GA4 property for your site. Using a different account is the most common reason GA4 properties don't appear later.

Add your property

A property is a site or store you want to test. Each property has a starting URL and one analytics connection.

  1. In the Get started with Squoosh modal, open Add Property URL.
  2. In the Website URL field, enter the full starting URL for your site, including https:// — for example, https://yourstore.com.
  3. Click Continue.

Choose an analytics source

This step tells Squoosh where to read your real traffic data. Squoosh studies that data to model how your visitors behave — their device mix, traffic sources, and how they move through your funnel — and builds a pool of synthetic shoppers that matches.

  1. In the modal, open Choose Analytics Source.
  2. Select Google Analytics to connect a GA4 property. If your workspace runs on Shopify, you may also see Shopify Analytics, which uses your store's built-in analytics.
  3. Click Continue.

You can choose Skip for now and connect a source later, but skipping means your synthetic shoppers won't be calibrated to your real traffic, so results will be less representative of your actual customers. Connect a source when you can.

Note

A property uses one analytics source at a time. Switching from Google Analytics to Shopify Analytics replaces the Google Analytics connection, and switching back replaces the Shopify Analytics connection.

Connect your source

The final step, Setup Analytics, shows fields for the source you chose.

Google Analytics

  1. Select your GA4 Account.
  2. Select the Property for the site you're testing.
  3. Click Continue to finish setup.

If no accounts appear, your Google account doesn't have access to a GA4 property. Ask a GA4 admin to grant you access (Viewer or higher), then sign in again with that Google account.

Shopify

  1. Click Install Shopify App and approve the requested permissions in Shopify.
  2. Return to Squoosh and click Refresh to confirm the store is connected.
  3. Click Continue to finish setup.

What's next

Your property is set up. The next step is to calibrate your synthetic shoppers so they behave like your real visitors.

You can change or add an analytics connection at any time from the Integrations page in the sidebar.
